Emech Enclosures Gore shrinks vents for automotive enclosures

PolyVent Compact is a series of vents for automotive electronic housings from Gore, 30% smaller than the firm’s PolyVent Snap-Fit family.

“It provides a higher level of protection for sensitive components like sensors, motors and control units, while providing reliable and rapid pressure equalisation,” said the manufacturer. “Protection and equalisation is due to a micro-porous membrane that breathes to allow airflow, yet blocks entry of water and contaminants.”

The vent is 14.3mm in diameter and 8.9mm tall, of which 3.45mm protrudes outside the case. “Low installed height affords less vulnerability to mechanical impacts or steam-jets. Often, no protective wall is needed,” said the firm.

Specification at standard temperature and pressure:

80kPA/30s Minimum water entry pressure

15 litre/h at 7kPa (43cm3/min at 1.22kPa) minimum airflow

28 litre/h at 7kPa (81cm3/min at 1.22 kPa) typical airflow

IP6K6K, IP6K8, IP6K9K ingress protection

-40 to 150°C operation.
